FAQs

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE FOR THE FILM SUBMISSION?

Submissions are open from April 1st to August 31st.


IS THERE A SUBMISSION FEE?

There is no fee to submit a film for the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).


WHAT TYPES OF FILMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SUBMISSIONS?

Fiction and Non-Fiction Films eligible for our competition sections:
  • Muhr Feature – Arab director and the film needs to relate to the Arab World
  • Muhr Short – Arab director and the film needs to relate to the Arab World
  • Muhr Gulf Short – GCC national director
  • Muhr Emirati - UAE director

I AM OF ARAB ORIGIN BUT MY FILM HAS NO ARAB CHARACTERS/SUBJECTS IN IT. CAN I STILL SUBMIT?

You could only submit if you are from any of the Gulf Countries under Muhr Gulf Short or Muhr Emirati as there are no specific guidelines on the subject and storyline of the films.


WHAT ARE THE ARAB COUNTRIES ELIGIBLE FOR THE MURH SECTIONS?

Arab Nationality or Origin shall mean people from one or more of the following countries: Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, including GCC: Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.


AS A DIRECTOR, I AM NOT ARAB OR FROM ARAB ORIGIN BUT MY PRODUCER/CAST IS FROM THE ARAB REGION. CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM?

The director must be of Arab nationality or origin.


WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY FILM HAS BEEN SELECTED?

We will announce our selection by the end of November.


I AM UNABLE TO UPLOAD MY FILM. WHY IS THAT?

There is no need to upload your film. We only require a private online link and password.


CAN I SEND YOU A DVD?

We only accept private viewing links to be included on the submission form.


I HAVE MADE AN ERROR ON MY ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

To update your existing film information, please log in again using your DIFF username and password. Once on the dashboard, you can click on “View Submission” which will take you to the list of films or projects submitted and edit/update accordingly. (Applicable until the DIFF submission deadline of 31st August).


HOW DO I CONFIRM MY FILM HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO DIFF?

An automatic confirmation email is sent once your submission has been received.


DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILMS?

DIFF’s official programme (out of competition sections) is solely curated by DIFF’s programmers.


DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS?

DIFF’s official programme (out of competition sections) does not include international short films.


AS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS SUBMISSION, WHEN SHALL I SUBMIT THE FINAL CUT?

For Work-in-progress submissions, we strongly advise you to submit the most updated version prior to our submission deadline, 31st August, as it will be reviewed as such. If your film gets selected, DIFF submissions will then advise you on the final cut deadline.
