Catch Oscar® nominated features Ladybird, Loveless, The Square, Get Out, and Blade Runner 2049 every day from March 1 – 7 at DIFF365@VOX Cinemas

Dubai, 26 February, 2018: DIFF’s award winning cinema showcase, DIFF365@VOX Cinemas powered by Du, continues its celebration of Oscar® nominated films with the 90th Academy Awards®, the biggest night in the film calendar just days away.

DIFF365@VOX Cinemas proudly presents five of the best films of the year all in their original format which have been stacking up the awards including Golden Globes, BAFTAS, Critics Choice and huge acclaim around the world.

‘Lady Bird’ a brand new release to the UAE is the touching, funny, personal, and mature coming-of-age comedy which is nominated for five Academy Awards® including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actress in a Leading Role for Saoirse Ronan, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Laurie Metcalf and Best Director for Greta Gerwig.

In ‘Lady Bird’, strong-willed teenager Christine McPherson, who has dubbed herself Lady Bird, yearns to leave her hometown of Sacramento and attend college on the East Coast. Her equally opinionated mother, Marion, who is struggling to provide for her family, tries to prepare her daughter for life's inevitable heartbreaks while also encouraging her to be her best self. Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Also screening is the supremely fresh, witty and thought-provoking ‘The Square’ from director Ruben Östlund which won the coveted Palme D'Or at Cannes Film Festival last year and is in the running for the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film.

In this no-holds-barred satire of the postmodern art world, Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum. His upcoming show entitled ‘The Square’ is an installation that invites passers-by to altruism and reminds them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. However, as is often the case, it is at times difficult to live up to one’s own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum's PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for ‘The Square’. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

DIFF365@VOX Cinemas also presents the must-see film of the year, ‘Get Out, the Academy Award® nominee for Best Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Daniel Kaluuya and Best Director for Jordan Peele). ‘Get Out’ follows Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a young African-American man, visits his white girlfriend's (Allison Williams) family estate, he becomes ensnared in the more sinister, real reason for the invitation. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined. This speculative thriller is equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary.

Also a contender for the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film is the shocking, powerful and masterful feature ‘Loveless’ (Nelyubov) the latest offering from Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev which opened to critical acclaim and won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and picked up Best Picture at London Film Festival. ‘Loveless’ (Nelyubov) is a stark drama in which Zhenya and Boris are going through a vicious divorce marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Already embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again, to turn the page – even if it means threatening to abandon their 12-year-old son Alyosha. Until, after witnessing one of their fights, Alyosha disappears…

Denis Villeneuve's epic ‘Blade Runner 2049’ photographed by legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins is a visually dazzling follow-up to one of science fiction's most iconic films. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. Nominated for Academy Awards® for Cinematography, Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is not just a film but the sci-fi event of the year event with powerhouse performances from Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling .

All five Oscar® nominated films will screen at DIFF365@VOX Cinemas at the dedicated theatre (Cinema 9) at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai from 1-7 March, 2018. Tickets are available online at the VOX website, uae.voxcinemas.com and at the box office at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates.
