DIFF Lifetime Achievement Award for Prominent Egyptian Actor Nour EL-SHERIF

Dubai, November 27 2014 – The prominent Egyptian actor Nour El-Sherif will this year receive the prestigious Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on more than 100 notable films. His 47-year career has seen him produce and star in leading Arabic language films, including the 2006 groundbreaking adaptation of Alaa’ Al Aswany’s novel ‘The Yacoubian Building’.

Amongst other acclaimed works is Youssef Chahine’s ‘An Egyptian Story’ (Hadduta Misrija) (1982), Atef E-Taieb’s ‘Sawak al-Utubis’ (1982), Youssef Chahine ‘Destiny’ (‘Al Massir’) (1997) and ‘11”09”01 – September 11’ (2002), in which El-Sherif played significant roles.

The Egyptian actor has reached legendary status in the region, and has become increasingly recognized worldwide for his outstanding work. He produced the 1976 action thriller ‘Circle of Revenge’ and went on to produce ‘Zaman Hatem Zahran’ in 1986.

This year, DIFF audiences will get to see the renowned actor in his latest feature Amir Ramses’s world premiere ‘Cairo Time’ which also stars Mervat Amin, Samir Sabri, Dorra, Ayten Amer, Sherif Ramzy, Karim Kassem, and Kenda Aloush.

DIFF Chairman Abdulhamid Juma said: “We are proud to be honouring Nour El-Sherif with this DIFF Lifetime Achievement Award, which is only bestowed upon the industry’s greatest figures. His career has spanned almost five decades, during which time he’s portrayed people from all walks of life. We look forward to welcoming him to Dubai and to DIFF.”

Nour El-Sherif added: “I am thrilled and privileged to have been nominated for the DIFF Lifetime Achievement Award. I’m very much looking forward to attending DIFF and Dubai, which has made a significant contribution to the region’s film industry.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award is dedicated to honouring the world’s greatest film industry actors, writers, directors and producers. Previous recipients include Martin Sheen, Omar Sharif, Faten Hamamah, Adel Imam, Jameel Rateb, Sabah, Morgan Freeman, Sean Penn, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Daoud Abdel Sayed, Youssef Chahine, Rachid Bouchareb, Souleymane Cisse, Nabil El-Maleh, Oliver Stone, Danny Glover, Terry Gilliam, Yash Chopra, Subhash Ghai, Michael Apted and Mahmoud Abdel Aziz.
