The independent cinema initiative invites audiences to dive into a world of music, struggle and heart from June 1st – 14th at VOX, Mall of the Emirates

Dubai, 24 May 2017: Continuing its spellbinding journey through the vast landscape of independent cinema, DIFF 365@VOX powered by du, returns to touch the hearts of UAE audiences with the poignant account of famed French jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt in Django which opened the 67th Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.

From the camera of Étienne Comar, praised for his César Award winning work on ‘Of ‘Gods and Men’ and ‘Timbuktu’, comes a tale of passion in the face of oppression. In 1943, France is a mired under German occupation yet every night the city comes alive with guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt’s witty, life-affirming ‘gypsy swing’ music. Despite the ongoing persecution of countless Romany people, Django, played by gifted actor Reda Kateb, remains untouched due to his popularity and sway of the Parisian elite, until one day. Torn between his passion for his art and protection of his family, the unconventional musician must decide what it means to survive.

A recipient of international critical acclaim, ‘Django’ was selected to open the 2017 Berlin Film Festival due to the film’s ability to move all audiences with its universal tale of identity set at the crux where Reinhardt’s passions and roots.

Exclusive to DIFF 365@VOX, Django will screen at the dedicated theatre (cinema 9) at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai from June 1st until June 14th 2017. Tickets are available online at the VOX website uae.voxcinemas.com and at the box office at VOX Cinemas Mall of the Emirates.
