Wed May 10, 2017

A Man Called Ove is the third instalment in the new venture from VOX Cinemas, du and DIFF bringing all year round screenings of the best independent cinema

Dubai, 10 May 2017: Having brought laughs and heartache from Newcastle to Varanasi, the new independent cinema initiative, DIFF 365@VOX powered by du, heads north with a touching comedy from Swedish filmmaker Hannes Holm, A Man Called Ove (En Man Som Heter Ove).

Based on author Fredrik Backman's 2012 book of the same name, A Man Called Ove (‘En Man Som Heter Ove) centres on a quintessential angry old man. An isolated retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, who spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about, and visiting his wife’s grave, Ove has given up on life. Enter a boisterous young family next door who accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox while moving in and earning his special brand of ire. Yet from this inauspicious beginning, an unlikely friendship forms and we come to understand Ove’s past happiness and heartbreaks. What emerges is a heartwarming tale of unreliable first impressions and the gentle reminder that life is sweeter when shared.

Exclusive to DIFF 365@VOX the Swedish irresistible, heartfelt comedy has received critical acclaim and a double Oscar nomination for the 89th Academy Awards. The film has won numerous awards including Best European Comedy at the 29th European Film Awards, three wins at the 51st Guldbagge Awards, and the annual Swedish film awards, with Best Actor presented to Rolf Lassgård for the leading role.

A Man Called Ove will run at the DIFF 365@VOX dedicated theatre (cinema 9) at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai starting from May 18th until May 31st 2017. Tickets are available now online at the VOX website uae.voxcinemas.com and at the box office at VOX Cinemas Mall of the Emirates.
