The glamour stakes went through the roof at last night’s glittering charity fundraiser, The Global Gift Gala, hosted by the Dubai International Film Festival and the UAE-based philanthropic organisation Dubai Cares.

Eva Longoria Baston, Melanie Griffith and Andie MacDowell proved they were more than just leading ladies when they lit up the red carpet looking absolutely stunning. Melanie looked radiant in red; Andie was glowing in a midnight blue dress covered in sparkles and Eva stood out in a magnificent, black fish-tail, off-the-shoulder dress.

What’s more, US singing sensation Anastacia was there to provide the entertainment, wowing the crowd with her biggest hits! When you’ve got one of the world’s most renowned chart topping singers in your midst, you know it means business.

The ‘business’ in this case was raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support charity work across four different continents – making this one a truly global gala. The beneficiary programmes included Dubai Cares, Harmony House (India), the Eva Longoria Foundation (USA And Mexico) and the Global Gift Foundation’s Casa Global Gift.

During the auction, the esteemed gathering of VIPs from the region and from the world of film, bid to win phenomenal prizes including having a shoe in the next collection by Sarah Jessica Parker named after them! But that’s not all – they’ll get to fly to New York to meet SJP herself for the launch of the collection. If the shoe fits, wear it we say!

Other jaw-dropping bids included a Pablo Picasso Book of Drawings and Writings. Sounds even better when you learn that the book is signed by Picasso!

The title sponsor, The Apparel Group, also came up with the goods, offering 100,000 Apparel points to spend in any of its over 1,400 shops along with a personal shopper. One guest also drove away in an Audi R8; another was gearing up to dine with Gary Rhodes and one guest was left raring to meet Eva Longoria in Paris at the Four Season George V in May.

This glittering event, which took place at the Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, also saw the presentation of two awards. Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe winning Hollywood actress Melanie Griffith was the recipient of the Global Gift Humanitarian Award, while owner and Vice President of the Apparel Group, Sima Ved, was presented with The Global Gift Philantropreneur Award.

The atmosphere was electric throughout the evening. Spellbinding magic tricks from Spanish magician Jorge Blass astounded the audience; the stirring sound of the Dubai College Choir touched everyone’s hearts; music from Reyes Heritage, sons of the Gypsy Kings, got everyone’s toes tapping; and renowned DJs Ashley James and Charlotte de Carle ensured everyone hit the dance floor. And of course, Anastacia was the icing on the charitable cake.

A night to remember in all its glittering glory.
