A feature-length film with the highest ratings as voted by the DIFF audiences will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

Dubai, 03 December 2016: The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is honoured to announce its continued partnership with Emirates NBD, one of the leading banking groups in the region, in supporting the People’s Choice Award for the 13th edition of the Festival which runs December 7-14th 2016.

All feature films screened throughout the duration of the Festival are eligible for the People’s Choice Award. The prize is awarded to the film with the highest ratings based on votes by the DIFF audiences.

Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Emirates NBD celebrates the sponsorship, commenting: “This year marks the fourth in our continued support of the People’s Choice Award at Dubai International Film Festival, a landmark event in the UAE cultural calendar. We are proud of our association with this wonderful platform that encourages and nurtures talent among the region’s filmmaking community.”

Emirates NBD has also extended its support to the Dubai Cinematography Workshop, which was hosted earlier this month. The initiative offers a hands-on experience for aspiring filmmakers, helping them break into the industry by providing mentorship from acclaimed cinematographer William Steven Shaw.

Chairman, DIFF, Abdulhamid Juma adds: “We are delighted to have Emirates NBD onboard again as the supporting sponsors of the Emirates NBD People’s Choice Award. Their continued involvement greatly supports DIFF, and highlights their devotion to encouraging UAE audiences to enjoy the very best of Arab, Indian and international cinema.”

Last year, ‘The Idol’, a real-life story of Palestinian Mohammad Assaf who won Arab Idol, directed by Hany Abu-Assad, was awarded the prize. Namely, films such as Disney’s Oscar winning animation ‘Frozen’, and independent documentary ‘The Brain that Sings’ by Emirati filmmaker Amal Al-Agroobi have been recipients of the People’s Choice Award in previous years.

Ticket packages are on sale now for the 13th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival which will take place from the 7th December – 14th December, 2016.
