Screenings of the best films from around the world will also be on display at VOX cinemas, Mall of the Emirates and THE BEACH- Opposite JBR.

Dubai, 27 November 2016: Cinemagoers from around the world will be treated to captivating cinema screenings and lavish Red Carpet Galas at the Dubai International Film Festival’s (DIFF) purpose built state-of-the-art screening venue, the Madinat Arena. Running across the Festival from December 7–14, special film screenings will fill the bespoke Arena while across the promenade, a series of red carpet presentations will be held at the Madinat Theatre in the Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Screenings of the best films from around the world will be on display at VOX cinemas, Mall of the Emirates and THE BEACH- Opposite JBR.

On Thursday 8th December, Festival attendees will experience the World Premiere of ‘Befikre’, the Hindi romantic comedy from Aditya Chopra starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor and will be followed by the latest work from two-time Oscar winner Ang Lee who brings his extraordinary vision to DIFF in ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’, based on the widely-acclaimed bestselling novel.

The weekend will get underway in style on Friday 9th with a triple bill of screenings at the Arena, kicking off with a Children’s Gala for ‘Swallows and Amazons’, the ultimate family adventure film based on the popular children’s books of the 1930s and 1940s. This will be followed by Emirati director Ali F. Mostafa’s much-anticipated third feature film ‘The Worthy’. British romantic comedy ‘Their Finest’ directed by Lone Scherfig starring Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy and Sam Claflin closes the day.

DIFF’s Saturday Madinat Arena plays host to four gala screenings kicking off in the morning with the 3D animated comedy family film ‘Rock Dog’ directed by Ash Brannon featuring the voices of Luke Wilson, J.K Simons. The dazzling romantic musical comedy-drama ‘La La Land’ written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and J. K. Simmons will light up the Arena screen in the afternoon. The evening galas opens with the provocative Egyptian drama ‘The Preacher’ directed by Magdy Ahmed Aly and starring Amr Saad, Dorra Zarrouk and Ahmed Magdy and John Lee Hancock’s ‘The Founder’ – a biographical drama about the founder of McDonald’s starring Michael Keaton in the title role closes the day.

The World Premiere of the Lebanese comedy ‘Solitaire’ from director Sophie Boutros and starring Julia Kassar, Ali El Khalil and Bassam Koussa and the visually spectacular drama ‘A Monster Calls’ from director Juan Antonio Bayona and featuring Lewis MacDougall, Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson feature on Sunday 11th.

Monday 12th will enjoy two screenings beginning with Argentina’s Foreign-Language Oscar entry ‘The Distinguished Citizen' directed by Gaston Duprat is up first and ‘Manchester By The Sea’, a highly acclaimed American drama directed and written by Kenneth Lonergan and starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams concludes the day.

Philippe Falardeau brings his exceptional biographical sports drama to the Madinat Arena on Tuesday 13th, ‘The Bleeder’ starring Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber and Ron Pearlman. The star-studded ensemble American drama ‘Collateral Beauty’ from David Frankel includes Will Smith, Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Naomie Harris and Keira Knightly closes the curtain on the penultimate day of the Festival.

DIFF’s Closing Night Gala will be one to watch as the first of the highly anticipated standalone Star Wars films, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, descends on Dubai. The all-new epic adventure from Lucasfilm is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Masoud Amralla Al Ali, DIFF’s Artistic Director described the Madinat Arena as a perfect backdrop for the Festival: “DIFF’s special gala screenings are the crowning glory of the Festival and something we really look forward to each year. The setting at the Madinat Arena adds even more magic to the wonder of cinema and provides a truly memorable film experience for all our guests as they have the chance to view some of the latest and greatest films from around the globe in a bespoke venue created just for the Festival.”

Fans can get a slice of Red Carpet Gala glamour for just AED 100, with regular arena screening tickets at the Arena priced at AED 50. The Madinat Arena, which will seat 1,800 spectators, is sure to create memorable experiences for audiences with a stellar lineup of films for all to enjoy.

The 13th edition of DIFF will see films screened over eight days at the Madinat Jumeirah Arena, Madinat Theatre, Souk Madinat Jumeirah and VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates and THE BEACH – opposite JBR.

Cinemagoers can buy tickets from the DIFF box office at diff.ae and at VOX Cinemas Mall of the Emirates. Tickets will also be available from the Madinat Arena, Madinat Jumeirah from Tuesday, December 6th and from the Madinat Theatre, Souk Madinat Jumeirah on Wednesday, 7th December.
