Uchiage Hanabi, Shita Kara Miru Ka? Yoko Kara Miru Ka? (Fireworks, Should We See It From The Side Or The Bottom?)
A warmly-received example of Japanese anime at its cute, lovelorn romantic best, ‘Fireworks…’ is a SHAFT production, based on the 1993 live-action drama of the same name. Directed by Nobuyuki Takeuchi, it’s the story of a group of schoolfriends, experiencing a memorable day. A fireworks display is planned, but Norimichi, Yusuke, and their friends at school in a Japanese seaside town are looking forward to enjoying it. Meanwhile, young Nazuna’s parents are divorcing, and her mother is planning to take her away after the summer break. The lads, Norimichi and Yusuke race 50 meters in the swimming pool and Nazuna secretly decides that this is as good a way as any to find a boyfriend, so decides the winner will accompany her when she runs away from home…
