Jackie
Natalie Portman shines in one of the films of the year, delivering a pitch-perfect performance that embraces the complexities and charms of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, with Chilean director Pablo Larraín’s acclaimed film delving astutely into both the legend and the woman behind the image. The film jumps around in time – from a recreation of her 1961 television programme in which she hosted a tour of the White House, through to a discussion with a priest (John Hurt) in which she mulls over life and marriage, with Portman’s performance strikingly powerful and balanced as she humanises the legend that is Jackie.
