Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
Heartfelt, harrowing and at times hellish realistic, Ang Lee’s powerful new film is an enthralling delve into the notion of wartime heroism. Lee – whose film LIFE OF PI opened DIFF in 2012 – utilised striking technical advances to shoot the film at a frame rate of 120 frames per second in 3D and 4K HD resolution, the first time a film has been shot at such a high frame rate. The film is based on Ben Fountain’s novel and details the promotional tour Billy Lynn (British newcomer Joe Alwyn) and fellow US soldiers undertake after being hailed as heroes after they barely survive a brutal battle. The tour ends at the halftime show of the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving home game.
