São Jorge (Saint George)
Portugal’s dire economic situation has featured in recent films from the country. Director Marco Martins’ SAINT GEORGE continues that trend to impressively stark effect. Reunited with actor Nuno Lopes, Martins tells the gloom-laden story of a former boxer Jorge, who turns to debt collecting as the only way to raise money to stop his family from leaving the country. He works for a company, which has bought the debts of ordinary working folk who have defaulted on their loans and connects him with honest working folk laid low by the country’s economic situation.
