Mali Blues
A splendid documentary about the healing power of music. The passion, power and vibrant heart and soul of music and its profound impact on people and even a country is enthrallingly brought to light in Lutz Gregor’s documentary, with the filmmaker travelling through the land-locked West African country of Mali. When extremists took over the country, music was banned, but since their retreat, the power of music is playing a role in promoting peace. Musicians featured include Fatoumata Diawara, who escaped to Paris as an adolescent and has acted in films such as TIMBUKTU, and who returns to her homeland for a major concert to play alongside other influential performers.
