Apprentice

Aiman is a 28-year-old Malay correctional officer, recently transferred to the territory’s top prison. He lives with his older sister Suhaila. At his new workplace, Aiman is acquainted with a 65-year-old sergeant named Rahim, who is the prison’s long-serving chief executioner. Rahim also notices the principled and diligent Aiman. When Rahim’s assistant quits, he asks Aiman to become his apprentice. Suhaila becomes upset, when she learns of Aiman’s new role, and the dark past of the family is revealed. APPRENTICE powerfully surveys the impact of capital punishment on death-row prisoners, their families, and the executioners themselves.
