Apprentice
A tough and thoughtfully-made drama, in which writer/director Junfeng Boo tackles many themes - from capital punishment to the nature of rehabilitation. It dwells on the relationship between 28-year-old Aiman (Fir Rahman), a former delinquent now prison guard who wants to help inmates and the veteran hangman Rahim (established actor Wan Hanafi), who has been doing his job as a professional for 30 years. Boo’s film is made with a good deal of humanity and compassion and with compelling style.
