Abl Zahmet El Saif (Before The Summer Crowds)
BEFORE THE SUMMER CROWDS is a rich slice of ‘Egyptian pie.’ A story of summertime neighbours and voyeurs whose characters are the bourgeoisie that swarms the north coast, throughout the Egyptian summer. Dr Yehia (Maged El Kedwany) and wife Magda (Lana Mushtaq), an estranged couple, arrives at their summer shack weeks before the seasonal crowds. Enter Hala, their neighbour, a professional translator and a recently divorced mother of two. The pre-summer holiday they all hoped for turns out to be yet another backdrop for the same frustrations. Half-light-hearted manifesto and half-satire, Mohamed Khan gives us a film that could happen anywhere in the world, and is equally very distinctly Egyptian.
