Amal Al-Agroobi
Amal Al-Agroobi set up the production company ALAGROOBI Films in 2013 after the debut of her first short, social documentary film, HALF EMIRATI, at DIFF 2012, which became the "most watched film" at the festival. Al-Agroobi completed her BSc in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Neurosciences but left the field of science in 2011 to pursue her love for film. Since then, she has been named Best New Director in the UAE by Women in Film and Television. Her feature-length documentary THE BRAIN THAT SINGS won the People's Choice Award at DIFF 2013.
Her passion lies predominantly in social documentaries and human interest stories, believing that film can be used as a tool, not only to entertain but to teach and raise awareness. Al-Agroobi continues to work on narrative and documentary films.
