Two DIFF Films Win Golden Globes

Two films from this year’s Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) were recognized at the star-studded Golden Globes Awards ceremony last night.
Babel, which closed the festival’s 2006 run, was lauded as Best Motion Picture (Drama). The film had been nominated in seven categories, including Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Adrianna Barraza, who graced DIFF’s red carpet during the closing night gala.
The Last King of Scotland, another DIFF offering, took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for Forest Whittaker, who played former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in a performance many critics felt was the best of his career.
The Golden Globes is seen within the film industry as an Academy Awards forecast, predicting in many cases which films and stars will win coveted Oscar statuettes in March.
