South African Apartheid Film An Audience Winner

Dubai audiences filled the theatre at the Madinat Arena for the Gala Screening of Skin,  a South African film from DIFF’s iconic Cultural Bridge programming segment, which is dedicated to exploring cinema as a tool for intercultural communication and understanding.

Director Anthony Fabian and well-known South African actress Alice Krige attended, along with Sandra Laing, whose life story is the basis of the film.

Sandra was born to ‘white’ parents in apartheid South Africa,  but classified as ‘black’ by the authorities. The decision tore Sandra’s family apart and affected the entire course of her development as she and her family fought against the apartheid system.

Skin will screen once more at DIFF 2008, at the Grand Cinema in Festival City at 20:45 on December 18.
