Sun Dec 11,2011

Dubai, UAE; December 11, 2011: The young superheroes created by Kuwaiti Dr Naif Al-Mutawa are descending in Dubai on Tuesday (December 13, 2011) with the international premiere of The 99 Unbound. Armed with the ancient ‘Noor’ stones that mysteriously ordain them with superhuman powers, these heroes are on a mission to fight evil in the world.

Screening in the Arabian Nights programme of the eighth Dubai International Film Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the animated film is the result of years of campaigning by Al-Mutawa, and aims to take the Islamic tradition to children around the world in the most accessible and compelling way.

Marking the first time the immensely popular characters are coming on the big screen, The 99 Unbound will be screened at DIFF on Dec. 13 at the First Group Theatre, Madinat Souk at 5.30 pm, with a second screening on Dec. 14 at Mall of the Emirates, Cinema 7.

In the movie, Dr. Ramzi Razem wants to recruit The 99 stone-bearers – including Bari the Healer, Darr the Afflicter, Hadya the Guide, and Jabbar the Powerful – to create an invincible team dedicated to fighting evil in the world. However, he confronts a fearsome adversary: the sinister Rughal, who has been hunting the stones for centuries, and has very different plans.

The 99 Unbound is directed by Dave Osbourne, whose career spans over two prolific decades, working on numerous animated television shows for the UK, with TV series such as Wiggly Park to his credit.
