High Attendance at Free Open-Air Screenings

Thu Dec 15,2005

More than 2,000 people have attended the first three days of the Dubai Film Festival’s series of open-air screenings at the Dubai Media City amphitheatre so far, with hundreds more expected at the last screening on Friday (December 16, 2005). The five-film ‘Screen on the Green’ series of family-friendly films opened on Monday, December 12, with the earth documentary Baraka.

The UAE’s first 70mm presentation drew more than 500 people; an additional 1,100 people attended the second night’s screening of Hollywood romantic comedy Elizabethtown. Lebanese road musical Autobus drew a crowd of 400, and the number of attendees was expected to double for the Thursday night screening of Japanese animated blockbuster Howl’s Moving Castle and the Friday night screening of family-friendly story Mad Hot Ballroom.

A giant purpose-built 30ft by 70ft screen will be used to screen the film, accompanied by an array of professional speakers arranged around the audience, and comfortable bean bag seating for the first 1,000 people. Concession stands are strategically placed throughout the open-air venue.
