First Arab-Produced Short Science Fiction Film Debuts at DIFF

Thu Dec 15,2005

Alliance, the first short science fiction film produced by an Arab and starring a female Muslim character in the lead role, will debut at the Dubai International Film Festival on Friday, December 16, 2005.

The film, set in the 24th century, begins with a planet under attack from a shadowy extra terrestrial race who launch brutal and inexplicable raids on Earth at the same time that a decades-old anarchist movement plunges the planet into cycles of terrorist attacks and destruction.

It is up to Jenna Yameen, the rebellious and faithless daughter of a famous Arab archaeologist, to figure out what’s going on and what to do about it. She discovers an artifact that contains a message that could affect the future of mankind’s very survival. The slickly edited, 33-minute film marks the first time a contemporary Muslim woman is the central character of an American-made film.
