Dubai, 14 April 2013 – Serving as the Official ‘Festival-Time’ Partner of the GFF and the DIFF for the third consecutive year, IWC Schaffhausen announced today at the GFF that the submissions for the IWC Filmmaker Award will open on 1 May 2013. Filmmakers are invited to submit their scripts for the second IWC Filmmaker Award, which offers a cash prize of USD 100,000 to help the winner transfer their vision to the screen.

Last year’s Academy Award winner and IWC Friend of the Brand Cate Blanchett, who was appointed head of the jury of the IWC Filmmaker Award, presented the award to Maysoon Pachachi, director of “Nothing Doing in Baghdad”. The second IWC Filmmaker Award will accept entries starting 1 May 2013 until 31 August 2013 at Three submissions will be shortlisted by an independent jury in October before IWC will present the award to its selected winner during the 10th Dubai International Film Festival.

Under the partnership, the Swiss watch manufacturer will present the Gulf Film Festival’s Honouree Kuwaiti stage and film actor, writer and arts administrator Mohammed Jaber, a fixture of the artistic scene in Kuwait and the wider GCC for over 50 years, with an IWC Portuguese Hand-Wound in a stainless-steel case with a black dial.

The Gulf Film Festival

The Gulf Film Festival (GFF) is an annual non-profit cultural event that aims to celebrate the highest standards of Gulf Cinema. Since its inception in 2008, the Festival has served as a platform to develop the local and regional film culture in the Gulf creating greater opportunities for filmmakers to screen their films and develop future film projects. In addition, the Gulf Film Festival is home to the International Shorts competition honouring talent from around the world.  In presenting the best of Arab cinema from the Gulf countries, the GFF will become a destination festival for the international film community to discover state of the art cinema in the region.
