All-Star Romantic Comedy Elizabethtown Screening at Film Festival’s Free Open-Air Cinema

Dubai, December 11, 2005: UAE audiences will have the opportunity to see the feel-good star vehicle Elizabethtown under the stars and for free on Tuesday (December 13, 2005), as part of the Dubai International Film Festival’s “Screen on the Green” program. Elizabethtown, the latest film from celebrated director Cameron Crowe, brings together some of the biggest names in Hollywood in a romantic comedy for the entire family. Crowe, whose work on Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire established his signature style and uncommon ability, directs this light-hearted Hollywood comedy that made its international debut at the recent Toronto International Film Festival. The film is likely to strike a chord with UAE audiences, especially given star Orlando Bloom’s appearance at DIFF 2004 last December. In Elizabethtown, Bloom plays a shoe designer whose product fails miserably just as he gets the news that his father has died while on a family visit to the faraway town of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. On a red-eye flight to claim the body, Bloom finds himself the only passenger to Kirsten Dunst’s sole flight attendant. She insists the reluctant Bloom move up to first class, and tries her best to help him out of his near-suicidal funk. Meanwhile, the little town turns out in full force to welcome the city slicker Bloom, giving him an entirely different perspective on life. The film also features Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, and Jessica Biel. Elizabethtown, part of the Festival’s Contemporary World Cinema section, is the second of five films being screened as part of the free open-air “Screen on the Green” program at the amphitheatre at Dubai Media City. The program also includes Lebanese road musical Autobus (Bosta) on Wednesday; Japanese animated feature Howl’s Moving Castle on Thursday and vibrant coming-of-age documentary Mad Hot Ballroom on Friday. A giant purpose-built 30ft by 70ft screen will be used to screen the film, accompanied by an array of professional speakers arranged around the audience and comfortable bean bag seating for the first 1,000 people. Concession stands are strategically placed throughout the open-air venue. The second Dubai International Film Festival continues until Saturday, December 17, and features 98 films including features, retrospectives and short films until Saturday, December 17.
