UAE Children Invited to Judge Children’s Festival in Hollywood

Sun May 13,2007

The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced that it had selected three children from the UAE who will travel to Los Angeles, California, to sit on the jury of the esteemed Giffoni Hollywood, a special edition of the popular Italian children’s festival that is currently in its 36th year.

The children are twins Sara and Reem Berger, both almost 13 years old, and 14-year old Omar Mohammed. Sara said that the jurists are “very excited” about their trip, which will see them judging films made or inspired by youth.

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, said: “DIFF was approached to appoint three jurists for this unique initiative because of our children’s programme, which was a new initiative this year and brought children into the festival atmosphere for the first time. We know that Sara, Reem and Omar will be excellent ambassadors for the UAE and for Dubai, and we look forward to expanding on our own children’s film programming for DIFF 2007.”

Giffoni Hollywood will welcome over 1000 children and teens from 30 countries around the world. The festival will feature films emphasizing stories made by or influenced by today’s youth. The programming and events offer the participants an unprecedented insight into the art of filmmaking, including workshops, demonstrations, tours and gatherings
