THE FINISHING TOUCH: 16 ENJAAZ 2013 FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Tue Dec 03,2013

The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today revealed the recipients of its Enjaaz funding support programme, which assists regional filmmakers in completing their feature films to the highest technical standards. In addition the first recipients of the ‘Filmi’ programme, a recent initiative by Watani to support Emirati talent, were announced.

Since its inception in 2009, Enjaaz has supported more than 80 Arab films, across two yearly funding cycles. The ‘Filmi’ project, launched earlier this year and run in tandem with Enjaaz, is dedicated to promoting, reinforcing and enhancing the cultural identity of the UAE. The funding supports emerging Emirati talent who are passionate about creating stories that reflect the diversity of life in the Emirates.

Masoud Amralla Al Ali, DIFF’s Artistic Director, said: “Enjaaz provides practical assistance to the region’s emerging artists. Productions are often lacking in funds toward the end of the development cycle, and these post-production grants can mean the difference between a film being seen by audiences around the world or remaining an unfinished dream due to lack of funds. Enjaaz is a solution to often insurmountable obstacles faced by Arab filmmakers, and is key to our goal of promoting Arab cinema on the world stage.”

He continued, “The majority of this year’s Enjaaz recipients are featured at DIFF this year, which proves that the Enjaaz programme delivers phenomenal return on investment. On behalf of DIFF, I congratulate this year’s Enjaaz and Filmi finalists and wish them well in the future.”
