Sat Nov 11,2006

In line with the Dubai International Film Festival’s (DIFF) directive to foster increased collaboration between the regional film festivals, Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, and Dr. Ezzat Abu Ouf, President of Cairo International Film Festival pledged joint cooperation to ensure the success and international acclaim of both the Arab film festivals.

The call for increased mutual support came as part of Juma’s regional roadshow in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

The two festival heads expressed willingness to promote excellence in Arab cinema on the global arena, with a specific focus on contemporary productions from the Middle East and North Africa region.

Commenting on the role that Egypt has played in the evolution of Arab cinema, Abdulhamid Juma said, ‘Egypt is home to the oldest Arab cinema industry in the region. Its productions have received widespread acclaim that reflects its significant contribution to the development of the Arab film industry.’

Dr. Ezzat Abu Ouf acknowledged DIFF’s vital role in reviving the Arab film industry. He said, ‘We are confident our partnership with DIFF will take both the festivals to new levels of excellence in promoting emerging talent.’

DIFF’s initiatives in Cairo signals a long-term relationship between both festivals that aim to not only coordinate on operational matters, but also create a unified Arab film industry on par with international standards.

The third edition of DIFF will run from 10 - 17 December, 2006.
