Dubai Industry Promoted at Key International Festival

The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) held an exclusive reception at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) held from the 4-13 of September, that brought together film executives from the international community, introducing them to the various initiatives at DIFF that aim to increase the presence of emerging markets cinema on a global level.

150 guests gathered at the elegant Park Hyatt Hotel, confirming  DIFF’s international positioning as a Festival committed to promoting cross cultural dialogue by bringing together some of the topmost industry representatives onto one platform. The intimate event was attended by representatives of key festivals such as Berlin, Rotterdam, Cannes, Hotdocs and Tribeca; Miramax, Kimmel and Fortissimo Films; the Canadian Film Centre;  Indian actress Nandita Das; Nielson, the Swedish and Danish film institutes and Film Italia

Shivani Pandya, DIFF’s Managing Director, said: “For the last 5 years, TIFF has provided us with a valuable networking opportunity, where we have seen attendance from an increasing number of key industry guests thanks to our increasing profile on the international festival circuit. It was also the perfect opportunity to introduce our new initiative to the international industry, the Dubai Film Market It falls in accordance with DIFF’s commitment to raising the visibility of world cinema with an emphasis on Arab, Asian and African filmmakers and stimulating regional and international film production and trade.”

As the festival gathers momentum for its landmark fifth edition this December, film enthusiasts from across the globe will be welcomed and given a unique opportunity to showcase the best of what the UAE has to offer.

The fifth edition of the Dubai International Film Festival will take place December 11 to 18, 2008.
