Documentary Captures Dance History

Tue Dec 12,2006

Independent filmmakers Dayna Goldfine and Dan Geller bring to the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) their 5-year labour of love, Ballets Russes, which follows the US-based reincarnation of the original, immensely influential ballet company.

The film, “a captivating film that truly elevates the spirit,” according to the Los Angeles Times, opened to rave reviews at the Sundance film festival, and has since captured international audiences with is stunning archival footage and interviews with the surviving original members, now in their 80’s and 90’s. They are dynamic, articulate and more energetic than people half their ages.

During the five years of the film’s production, some of the interviewees passed away, leaving behind this remarkable, respectful and loving record of their long, fulfilling lives in the arts. The film is a joy not only for ballet lovers, but for anyone.

Ballets Russes will screen at 8:45 pm on Wednesday, December 13 at Mall of the Emirates Theatre 10.
