DIFF Announces Bronze Sponsor Companies

Fri Dec 08,2006

Seven leading companies have pledged their support to the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) as Bronze Sponsors, the festival announced today.

Bateaux Dubai, Desert Door Productions, Eye on Dubai, Fedex, Lammtara Pictures, JBM, and Xische Digital have all lined up behind the high-profile cinema event, which will run from December 10 to 17.

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, said, “It is always a pleasure for us to announce our sponsors, to show the caliber of the support we receive from these visionary companies. It takes confidence in one’s own goals to realize that culture is a valuable investment and a gift to the future of one’s community. DIFF will live up to that investment and retain our focus on delivering the best of the world to Dubai, and the best of Dubai to the world. We extend a warmth thanks to these organizations for their support of DIFF.”

Bateaux Dubai was also a DIFF sponsor in 2005, and will host several high-profile networking events cum dining cruises on the Dubai Creek. David Thompson, the company’s spokesperson, said, “our vessel is the perfect setting for a networking event, away from the bustle of the festival. We thank DIFF for giving us an opportunity to show off one of Dubai’s unique assets—-the Creek, a meeting place of new and old, traditional and modern. As they float among the glass towers of multinational companies and traditional dhows that ply the waters of the Gulf and the Indian Ocean, how can anyone doubt they are in one of the most fascinating cities in the world?”

Kuwaiti filmmaker Walid Al-Awadi, founder of Desert Door Productions, an international feature film production company and first licensee of Dubai Studio City, spoke about his company’s support of the festival: “I am so impressed by the way the festival has grown in the short time since its inception. It is a trailblazer for the establishment of a film industry in the region, which will be able to bring to the world the talent that is inherent here. The decision to support the festival was simple.”

Eye on Dubai, the tourist information television channel of the emirate, is a sponsor for the second year running. Saeed Al-Naji, Managing Director of Media Workshop, the channel’s producer, spoke about its involvement: “we have always believed that Dubai is a world-class city with lots to offer international visitors and residents alike, and DIFF is living proof of that. We support our wonderful emirate’s growing international reputation, and know that with our backing of DIFF, we are supporting a strong champion of Dubai on the world stage.”

International shipping giant Fedex has also pledged its support to the festival; Peter De Benedictis, the company’s Marketing Manager for Middle East and Africa, stated, “DIFF is an event with an eye on international prominence that has achieved that goal to an enormous degree after only three years. We know the kind of hard work that is involved in creating international reach, and are pleased to share our expertise and experience with the festival.”

The Managing Director of JBM, the full-service production company, stated that the company’s decision to support DIFF was, “a natural synergy that can only expand the scope and variety of production in the emirate. We have been active internationally for 4 years, and for 1 year in Dubai, and we are confident that the drive to promote filmmaking in the region, spearheaded by DIFF, will benefit companies like JBM that provide a broad array of services to the production community.”

Animation company Lammtara Pictures also added its support to DIFF this year, helping to create and maintain DIFF’s brand identity. Mohammad Harib, the company’s Managing Director, stated, “Lammtara, like DIFF, is dedicated to sustained growth to promote Dubai and Khaleeji culture on the world stage. Like the characters in our new animated series Freej, we feel that the traditional and the modern meld particularly well here in Dubai, and that DIFF manages that balance extremely well in its dedication to promoting Emirati artists. DIFF is providing the jolt that film production needs in the emirate.”

Award-winning new media agency Xische Digital continues its alliance as a sponsor for the second year running.  Danish Farhan, CEO of Xische, added, “We believe the festival is truly committed to breaking the mold, and that is the essence of our partnership.”  As part of its sponsorship, the niche team at Xische will produce an animated piece building on visual elements of the festival to set the tone for the cinematic experience prior to every gala screening at the Madinat Jumeirah.  “Like DIFF, Xische bridges East and West, with offices in Dubai and New York. We believe, as DIFF obviously does, that the future is multinational, multilingual and multicultural. We are proud to support DIFF in its effort to lead the emirate into a new cultural age,” he concluded.

The third annual Dubai International Film Festival will run from December 10 to 17, 2006.
