CONTENT IS KING, NOW MORE THAN EVER

Sun Dec 09,2012

Dubai, December 9th, 2012 – Establishing a culture of best practice for emerging Arab cinema, the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will be dedicating an entire day of the Dubai Film Forum to broadcasting; with a key focus on content platforms, distribution and the region’s changing viewing habits.

Jane Williams, Director of Film Forum and Dubai Film Connection, said: “Television has long been an important step in funding film projects through co-production, pre-sales and distribution, and with viewing habits in the region and around the world rapidly changing, broadcasters and film professionals must keep abreast of new developments. Dubai Film Market is the leading industry platform in the world dedicated to Arab cinema and our aim for our ‘Broadcasters Day’ panel is to enrich regional film professionals’ understanding of their place in an international system of content production that is in a state of constant flux.”

As a key element of the Festival’s business hub, Dubai Film Forum’s ‘Broadcasters Day’ will commence with a panel entitled How to Export Local Content, focusing on how the region’s producers can gain exposure to international markets. This will be followed by International Market Spotlight: Co-production and Distribution in Europe, Japan and Russia, which will outline how content ‘travels’ in world markets, with case studies. A later industry panel entitled Broadcasting in the Arab World – Now and in the Future will delineate how broadcasters such as OSN, MBC and Sky News Arabia keep ahead of the curve in the age of online and alternative platform viewing. This panel will be followed by Optimising Your Budget and Creating a Design Value with VFX, which will outline new advances in visual effects for all budgets.

The Dubai Film Forum is an integral part of the Dubai Film Market (DFM), DIFF’s comprehensive script-to-screen initiative, which also includes the Dubai Film Connection, the Festival’s successful co-production market; Enjaaz, the Festival’s dedicated post-production support programme; and the Dubai Filmmart, a global content trade and distribution platform.

The DIFF box office is open online on at www.dubaifilmfest.com. Additional information is also available through the Festival’s dedicated customer care number, 363 FILM (3456).
