Comedy Troupe on First Sold-Out Performance Around the Middle East

Dubai, December 13, 2007: The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) announced today that the film The White Thread, part of the Rhythm and Reels musical screening series, has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. In its place, the Dubai Media Theatre amphitheatre will echo with laughter as the Axis of Evil Comedy Troupe takes the stage.

The Axis of Evil is a stand-up group comprised of members Ahmed Ahmed, Aron Kader and Max Jobrani. The trio have been perfecting their comedy acts for over 10 years, and are currently in the middle of a Middle East tour, taking their brand of irreverent political comedy around the world. They recently gave sold-out performances in Dubai, and conducted a comedy writing workshop for the benefit of industry delegates at DIFF this week.

Following the Axis of Evil show, Bnet Marrakech will perform their unique blend of traditional Arabic and Berber gypsy songs and electronic dance beats, accompanied by DJ Zayan Freeman on the decks.

Rhythm and Reels is a new initiative at DIFF 2007 that pairs a musical film with a live musical performance. On Saturday, December 15, the last evening of the series will feature the film Across the Universe, followed by ‘The Best of the British Invasions,’ a multimedia act that revisits some of the greatest moments in music history.
