Few cities ‘do’ glamour quite as well as Dubai and for the opening night of the 13th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival, all the stops were pulled out in the Arabian fashion stakes.
Sequins were clearly de rigueur among the plethora of Arab actresses who glistened along the red carpet at the Jumeirah Madinat Arena, home to DIFF.
Billowing Cinderella-style dresses embellished with lavish embroidery contrasted with figure-hugging couture gowns all tailored perfectly to turn heads.
Egyptian TV superstar Yousra dazzled in a floor-length black cloak embellished with diamonds.
Meanwhile Tunisia’s household star, UN ambassador and once-voted among the region’s most powerful Arab women, Hend Sabri, looked classically stylish in a pale pink trailing chiffon gown teamed with a satin pink sash.
With few fashion constraints, the ladies clearly came dressed to impress showcasing the full scope of regional designer labels and keeping the cameras clicking during what proved to be a thrilling red carpet start to this year’s festival.
With the carpet leading the way into Madinat Jumeirah’s purpose-built Madinat Arena, guests took their seats for the opening movie and international premiere, Miss Sloane, the political drama starring Jessica Chastain, directed by John Madden (Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).
