Landmark 13th edition of the Festival presented In Association with Dubai Studio City
Dubai, 06 December 2016: The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced that the Festival’s 13th edition will again be presented in association with Dubai Studio City (DSC), Dubai’s leading production, broadcasting and content creation hub for regional and international media productions. DSC has collaborated with the Festival since its inception in 2004, supporting efforts to drive the growth and development of film production in the UAE, nurturing emerging local and international talent.
Dubai Studio City shares the collective vision of the Dubai Film Festival and supports the promotion of Dubai as global production hub that meets international industry standards through the provision of innovative facilities and services. Facilities include the largest sound stages in the region; purpose built recording and post-production studios, backlots, and production offices that enable an efficient and effective production for established and budding film, television, music and entertainment companies. Dubai Studio City also supports the region’s filmmaking industry by sponsoring and participating in initiatives such as the Dubai Film Market, which provides a platform for Middle East filmmakers to showcase their work and encourages the growth of independent film production. Dubai Studio City’s stand at the Dubai Film Market 2016 will provide visitors with key insights into the industry as well as information about the facilities on offers.
Commenting on the fruitful and enduring partnership between DIFF and DSC, Abdulhamid Juma, DIFF Chairman, said: “The Festival has excelled thanks to the rewarding relationship that has flourished between DIFF and DSC. We share a vision: to meet the creative needs of burgeoning and established filmmakers and contribute to the development of the local industry. Since the inception of the Festival, DSC’s outstanding services and professional working environment have supported a plethora of captivating films that have been showcased at DIFF. It is at the heart of the UAE’s film industry development, helping the region gain recognition on a global scale as a desirable location for film and TV production.”
Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Studio City, said: “Dubai Studio City and the Dubai International Film Festival have been at the forefront of establishing a vibrant film and production ecosystem in the emirate. Together we have been able to forge ahead, and leverage the vibrant and dynamic appeal of Dubai for the global film industry. The availability of industry leading infrastructure and talent in Dubai continues to allow for the creation of content for emerging platforms whether via mobile and online.”
Dubai’s film industry is witnessing a “leap frogging” phenomenon in terms of content generation techniques and platforms. Home to a number of “mobile-first” markets, the MENA region share of views on mobile phones jumped from 11% in 2011 to almost 70% in 2015. This paradigm shift means that the industry is shifting towards younger talent and new platforms for content.
DSC provides cutting-edge facilities and services to companies across broadcasting, media production, film, television and music and entertainment sectors and is home to the largest sound stages in the Middle East. Launched in 2005, it has attracted best-in-class audio-visual media companies and expertise such as Discovery Communications, Moby Group, and Filmworks to Dubai by providing internationally benchmarked infrastructure and business services. Facilities include pre-built studios, stages, warehouses, workshops, office spaces, backlots, a broadcast centre housing production studios and a business centre.
Dubai Studio City has positioned itself as a content production hub bringing leading international franchises in film and television productions to Dubai such as Star Trek Beyond and MasterChef Arabia
