When is the submission deadline for the DFC?
The deadline is August 15, 2013.
What types of films are eligible for funding?
Feature-length fiction and documentary films are eligible.
What is an In Development project?
Projects in development are projects that have not yet begun production/principal photography and are still in search for production and funding partners.
Who can apply?
Teams of a director and a producer may apply. The director must be of Arab nationality or origin - Arab nationality or Origin shall mean people from one or more of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The producer can be of any nationality.
I don’t have a producer attached. Can I still apply?
No. The project must have both a director and producer attached. If selected, both director and producer must be present during the DFC one-to-one meetings.
I am of Arab origin but my film project has no Arab characters/subjects in it. What are the chances of my project being selected?
We don’t require the film projects to have Arab characters or subjects in them. The only requirement is that the director be of Arab nationality or origin.
I am not of Arab origin but my producer is. Am I eligible?
No. The director must be of Arab nationality or origin. The producer can be of any nationality.
Can I apply with more than one project?
Yes, you may apply with multiple projects but only one will be selected.
I have submitted my project in the past but it was not selected. Can I submit it again?
You may submit your project again as long as there is a significant change since your last submission and this can be demonstrated. E.g.: A new producer is attached, the script has significantly changed in the following ways ...., etc.
When will I be notified if my project has been selected?
We will announce our selection at the end of October, beginning of November and will contact each applicant individually.
What should my financial plan look like?
Your financial plan gives the selection committee an understanding of how you plan to fund your film. It can include funds that you have already secured as well as those that are still pending or ones who you will be approaching. You can mention different financiers, including producers, funds, or awards.
Do I need money attached to my project to be eligible for the DFC?
No. The applicants do not have to have money attached to their projects to be selected for the DFC. However, we recommend that the selected projects have 20% of funds secured in time for discussions with industry professionals during the one-to-one meetings.
What is a creative documentary?
A creative documentary expresses the personal vision of the maker. Like reportage, creative documentaries provide insights into the world around us; but they are also characterised primarily by artistic qualities: innovation, originality, professional skill, expressiveness and cultural/historical value.
