QUARTET 1
Celebration of Indian Cinema
Synopsis
On the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the internationally-recognised Bengali poet, philosopher, playwright and auteur, well-known Indian directors were invited to make films on Tagore. To mark the occasion, the acclaimed Bengali film-maker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, , chose to explore Tagore's work as a poet. He selected 13 of Tagore's poems for the silver screen, hitherto undone. All these 13 "short films" touch each other and can be regarded as entities of their own - or as a tribute to Tagore as a whole. In accordance with the director, DIFF presents a selection of four short films of this new body of work: THE FLAUTIST, THE POND, THE DARK MAIDEN and THE STATION.
