THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
Synopsis
In 1940s, America, banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is wrongfully convicted for the murder of his wide and her lover. Starting his sentence at the vast Shawshank prison, this gentle, educated man makes friends with prison 'fixer' Red (Morgan Freeman), who is in Shawshank for a murder that he did commit. Andy's financial savvy earns him a special role in the office of the jail's deeply corrupt warden (Bob Gunton). He exploits his position not only to improve the lives of his fellows inmates (played by some of America's finest character actors), but also to conceal for decades a secret that leads to one of the greatest climactic revelations in all cinema. Morgan Freeman's characteristically wry, dignified performance and voice-over narration of a tale spanning decades are just two of the many unforgettable elements in this uplifting drama of injustice, friendship and hope.
