THE ONE MAN VILLAGE
Winner of Muhr Arab / Documentary /Special Jury Prize: Simon El Habre (Director)
Synopsis
A moving, poignant story, 'One Man Village' is Lebanese director Simon El Habre's documentary on the life of his elderly uncle, farmer Semaan El Habre. As the only remaining inhabitant of Ain El Hazaroun, a small village outside Beirut, Semaan stubbornly remains, while other villagers, who fled the besieged village during the 15-year civil war, have failed to return. As well as recounting the remarkable hardships and isolation faced by his uncle, El Habre's moving and brilliantly shot film highlights the impact the country's bitter in-fighting has had on countless similar villages and towns, which were left deserted and ruined. 'Samaan Bildayaa' is the winner of 2008 Dubai Film Connection.
