PRIVATE
Arabian Nights
Synopsis
Private is an intimate, moving and highly significant study of what happens to Palestinian family when their home is taken over by Israeli soldiers. A pressure-cooker of a film, Private slowly and subtly builds up tension; director Saverio Costanzo produces sincere, convincing performances from cast and captures the horror of the war through one family, one house. Confined to the first floor, the family reacts in different ways: while the father preaches pacifism, his teenage son and daughter would rather risk all to fight back. Winner of the top prize Locarno Film Festival this year, Private went on to screen to great acclaim at Toronto International Film Festival in September.
