Synopsis

Chinese director Hao Jie returns with this beautifully realised new film mixing local opera, history and rural customs in a comedic family tale suffused with music. The story of a romantic obsession that spans several decades the film revolves around Tiedan, who when six-years-old, falls in love with Sister May, the beautiful neighbour who practises a traditional form of singing called er ren tai. The cinematography is spectacular gracing Hao’s romantic storytelling with poetic beauty.
