Synopsis

From award-winning director Sono Sion comes a powerful and daring film about a family facing the harsh consequences of an earthquake and nuclear power plant explosion. The Ono family lives a frugal but happy life as dairy farmers in a peaceful Japanese village. When the worst earthquake in history strikes, causing a nearby nuclear power station to explode, their neighbours, who live within range of the station, are ordered to evacuate by the government. But the Ono family has only half of their garden designated as within range. The film examines a highly relevant subject describing the mental anguish of a family forced to separate due to an extremely unfortunate event.
