Winner of Muhr Arab / Feature /Best Actress: Hafsia Herzi (Actor / Actress)
Synopsis
The debut feature from acclaimed Moroccan director Souad El-Bouhati stars award-winning actress Hafsia Herzi as Sophia, the middle daughter in a Moroccan family living in France. Their world is turned upside down when her father suddenly loses his job, prompting a move back to their homeland. But by the time she reaches university age, eight years after returning to Morocco, Sophia is in the throes of an identity crisis. Flailing between her French and Moroccan influences, she struggles to reach an accommodation within herself, a reconciliation of the two disparate cultures. In turns insightful, tender and poignant, Sophia's difficult journey to a fundamental inner peace is beautifully rendered in El-Bouhati's empathetic and intelligent film.
