LOOK AT ME
Contemporary World Cinema
Synopsis
The winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival, Comme Une Image is French filmmaking at its most erudite. This sophisticated and illuminating film, 'a gem of comic melancholy' (variety), takes a long look at the relationships between a famous, egotistical author, his daughter, an opera student desperate to attract his approval, and her shy French-Arab boyfriend. Set in the milieu of arty, bourgeois Paris, it's witty-the script will have you half-smiling, half-grimacing in recognition at its warts-and-all-characters- and insightful, particularly on the corrupting influence of celebrity.
