When director Marcus Vetter goes to Jenin in the Palestinian Territories for a story about Ismael, whose son was shot by an Israeli sniper, he discovers that the city once boasted a popular cinema. Palestine used to have a well-developed film industry, but it collapsed with the First Intifada in 1987. Marcus, Ismael and Fakhri, a local from Jenin, begin the convoluted, dramatic and ultimately fulfilling process to renovate the old cinema and create a social and cultural hub. This compelling film tells the story of the birth of a cinema, through the complex cultural and political relationships that surround it, the volunteers that come to Palestine to assist, the old projectionist and his dusty equipment, and the audiences that await its arrival.
