Synopsis

BOPHA! Meaning to arrest or detain in Zulu, is the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman. Danny Glover plays Micah Mangena, a policeman in a sleepy South African town, who believes he is trying to help his people. In reality, he is pawn for the racist government. When his son gets involved in the anti-apartheid movement, he finds himself torn between his family and what he perceives as his duty to society. As violence taker over the once-peaceful town, and the brutality of the Special Branch sent to quell any disturbance becomes inescapable, Mangena is forced to recognize his real value, lack of value, to his white superiors.'Bopha! Was shot on location in Zimbabwe, and captures the beauty as well as the unhappiness of Southern Africa, unlike most films about South Africa, Bopha! Is told through black eyes, one of its greatest values' (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times).
