BACHELOR MOUNTAIN

Synopsis

In Heilongjiang Province, northern China, timber supplies have dwindled, and most of the local men have lost their livelihoods . The allure of better jobs in cities has led to an outflow of local women, creating a “bachelor mountain” populated by legions of lonely, impoverished, single men. Living in extreme loneliness, San Liangzi, a 46-year-old unemployed logger lost his job and wife 12 years ago, and has been secretly enamored by Meizi, a rare single woman in the village. He basks in the illusion of love. An illusion, for his love remains unrequited, as Meizi is utterly uninterested.
