Synopsis
A run-down truck yard, somewhere in the Parisian suburbs, and a micro-society of disaffected workers - mainly Arab and African immigrants - are mutinous. Their boss, a deceptively genial character mockingly nicknamed 'Mao', manages to consistently elide out of any serious efforts at improving their wages and conditions. In a bid to calm his disaffected workforce, 'Mao' creates an on-site mosque for the men, appointing an imam to lead prayers. But the move soon backfires as resentment amidst the workers is re-focused, on the mosque and the imam - and 'Mao'. 'Adhen' is a powerful and stark piece of socio-realist storytelling.
