The DIFF red carpet has seen plenty of action over the past few days, but yesterday, the famous crimson walkway saw an unprecedented amount of traffic, with stars of stage and screen strolling around the Madinat Jumeirah in another exciting day at DIFF.

We welcomed the cast of Alexander Payne’s ‘The Descendants’, Saturday night’s gala screening. A touching, blackly comic account of a family falling-apart – and back together again – the George Clooneystarring drama was represented by director Alexander Payne and actor Shailene Woodley, who introduced the screening at the Madinat Arena, to a capacity audience.

Shortly afterwards, the red carpet was honoured to welcome legendary Egyptian actor Gamil Ratib, who was making his way to the Arena to introduce the world premiere of his latest film ‘A Cloud In A Glass Of Water’. After having received his DIFF Lifetime Honoree Award last week, this legend of Arab stage and screen’s presence was a genuinely proud moment for the festival.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s festivities rounded off with a gala dinner and auction dubbed ‘One Night To Change Lives’, a black-tie charity gala dinner and auction, under the patronage of UN Messenger of Peace, HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Featuring star guests including supermodel Helena Christensen and pop sensation Ronan Keating, With a delectable array of prize lots on offer, ranging from a highly-covetable Picasso lino cut to the absolutely unmissable opportunity to have a yoga session with Alec Baldwin, the event raised funds for the charities Dubai Cares and Oxfam to engage with community works across the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
