After cruising off to a phenomenal start on Wednesday night, Dubai International Film Festival’s ‘A Celebration of Indian Cinema’ programme was in the spotlight last night at DIFF’s Gala screening of ‘Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl’. Bollywood fans lined the carpet to welcome Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh.

Preceding the Gala premiere, the lead actors along with Avtar Panesar, Vice President- International Operations for YRF, spoke to the press earlier in the day. After the success of ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, the winning combination of Sharma, Singh and director Maneesh Sharma collaborated yet again on ‘Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl’.

Asked if Yash Raj Films would consider Dubai as a possible filming location, Panesar replied, ‘We felt, back in 2004, that this was definitely going to be the centre of the world going forward so we came and set up an office here. We certainly regard Dubai or the Middle East in general, as a very important part of our business. Back in 2004, in terms of just sheer numbers, the UAE, Middle East, represented about 6 per cent of our international business. Now, seven years later, it is more than 30 per cent, so that’s a really huge increase on where we were and where we are. And if a particular film script demands it, we’d definitely shoot here. We’re committed to the Middle East.’

But Sharma and Singh weren’t the only actors in attendance yesterday. ‘An Afternoon With Shah Rukh, Priyanka, Farhan, Ritesh’ saw a packed Madinat Arena greet the stars for a session of sparkling conversation and wit.
