Dubai Film Market: Inspiring, empowering and connecting

Dec 17,2010 - 05:23 PM

Comprising a raft of initiatives, designed to assist, inspire and provide concrete support to filmmakers at all stages of production from script to screen, the Dubai Film Market’s multitude of projects have all met with a hugely enthusiastic response, form industry delegates, filmmakers and guest experts.
‘By Wednesday afternoon, we’d already had nearly 100 meetings take place at the Dubai Film Connection,’ says Vida Rizq, Dubai Film Market Consultant. ‘There’s been some great feedback, attendance is huge, filmmakers are saying that there have been great opportunities, they like the organisation and structure of the events and many of them have certainly been inspired to take their projects to the next level. It seems that much tangible progress has been made and we’re certainly looking forward to hopefully seeing some of these as realised projects in years to come at DIFF.’
Meanwhile, attendance at the Dubai Film Forum panel discussions has also been high, with the Forum Manager Zeina Sfeir reporting strong turnout and lively sessions between industry experts and visiting delegates and filmmakers. ‘It is really useful to directors and actors alike’, says Sfeir. ‘It’s for everybody but they highlight Arab actors in these casting sessions.’ Arab directors are also taught to sell their films. ‘Usually in the Arab world, outside of Egypt, we see a director trying to sell his own film. This is the job of a sales agent, not the director’, explains Sfeir.
