With Indian cinema dominating South Asia’s markets, emerging film-makers from neighbouring countries try to carve a space for themselves. Pashma Manglani reports. Indian cinema may be celebrating its centennial this year, but film-makers from its neighbouring countries still find it a struggle to have their voices heard. “It’s a challenging task,” said Sri Lankan director Asoka Handagama, whose film HIM, HERE AFTER is screening at DIFF (Friday at 20:45, MoE 7). “We’re India’s neighbour and films from there flood our theatres. People are more entertained by these than arthouse films.”
